⚠️ Simple Explanation β€” Everyone Should Know

What is Antibiotic Resistance?

You don't need to be a doctor to understand this. These are simple, clear explanations for everyone β€” students, parents, teachers, and the general public.

🦠

AMR β€” In Simple Words

Imagine giving a painkiller to someone who feels no pain from it anymore. AMR means bacteria have become so used to antibiotics that the medicine no longer kills them. The bacteria survive and multiply β€” making you very sick.

Everyone is at risk
πŸ’Š

MDR β€” When Many Medicines Stop Working

MDR means "Multi-Drug Resistant" β€” the bacteria resist 3 or more types of antibiotics at the same time. In Pakistan, many common infections like TB, typhoid, and UTIs are now MDR. Doctors run out of treatment options.

⚑

XDR β€” Extremely Resistant

XDR means "Extensively Drug Resistant" β€” almost NO antibiotic works. Pakistan had the world's first XDR typhoid outbreak in 2016. Only 1 or 2 very expensive medicines were left β€” and many families could not afford them.

🚫

Are YOU Causing Resistance?

Yes, if you:
β€’ Buy antibiotics without a doctor's prescription
β€’ Stop taking antibiotics when you feel better
β€’ Take leftover antibiotics for a new illness
β€’ Share your antibiotics with family members

All of these common habits create resistant bacteria.

Very common in Pakistan

How Probiotics Help

Probiotic bacteria produce natural substances that can kill resistant bacteria. Our research tests these probiotic strains in the lab to find new medicines β€” without chemicals that cause resistance.

Our research focus
βœ…

3 Things You Can Do Today

1. Only take antibiotics prescribed by a doctor.

2. Always finish the full antibiotic course β€” even if you feel better after 2 days.

3. Eat β€” natural probiotics protect your gut and help your immune system fight infections naturally.

Explained Simply

Network Pharmacology is like Google Maps for drug discovery. Instead of testing one drug on one target, it maps all possible connections between probiotic compounds and disease-causing bacteria β€” finding the best route to defeat AMR.

We then use Machine Learning (AI) to learn from thousands of data points and predict which probiotic strains will be most effective against resistant bacteria β€” before we even test them in the lab. This saves time, money and resources.

invitro lab tests confirm the AI predictions:

This combined approach is faster, cheaper and more accurate than traditional drug discovery β€” and it could lead to Pakistan's first probiotic-based antimicrobial gel.
